Obviously this is the best big block kit on the market at the moment as it has no competitors. Sadly for a kit that been designed from scratch it has a few shortfalls, Firstly the piston which i beleive has been replaced already. the original had the same rings as the TS1 which caused the failure around the exhaust port it now has thinner drawn wire type rings which are a lot better. The exhaust port which has the 2 additional ports is i think a very bad design. i think the port would have been much better having been much bigger but with a bridge in the centre as per most race engine designs without powervalves. Ive built a few engines with this kit now using both 60mm and 58mm stroke cranks a worthwhile investment is an MB Racetour piston and Racetour Crank a group of us from the Coasters went to visit a well known sprint racer who is building engines using this kit and two of us took his demonstrator out and we both came to the same conclusion that the coasters engines are making noticeably more power! Incidently the latest kit came from J B tuning with one of thier reworked heads and was fitted with 60mm stroke Phils riding it to Kelso this weekend so i'll let you know how it got on A|l in all more power than the discontinued TS1 but still room for improvement but limited by the Lambretta crank case i'd say 8 out of 10

Regarding the Coasters RB equiped Lammy and its trip to Kelso Scotland i can tell you that it went there and back via Skegness without missing a beat, but also something which may also swing someones decision buying one is that at a constant 55 to 60mph the scooter was returning 50 to 55 miles per gallon about the same as another one with us running 22mm jetex and JL3 exhaust ;D. The scooters a heavy series 2 and the rider sitting bolt upright weighs about 16 stone ;D

hi doc, mine has a 60mm af crank with a mb piston and jb head, done 1100 miles so far and can say it gets better every time i ride it very smooth ride, also i run a 35tm carb and nk race, when i went to yarmouth i was sitting at 50-55 which was tickover and only used 5 ltrs petrol , its about 100 miles, which was lot better than me ts1, ive taken her up to 80 and she had more, in all i think this is the best ever kit for lammy to date and is smoother, about 10mph faster than ts1, and loads better on fuel, on jbs tune up it had nearly 26bhp and it is not tuned at all bog standerd bolt on ;D

Phils using the same kit from JB with thier head hes using a lightened flywheel with 60mm MB crank & Piston ive machined the Cylinder and inlet manifold. with the lightened flywheel you normally lose a bit of torque but with the MB crank being heavier than the af one because its full circle and balanced with tungsten weights the torque is gained back again also the weight is between the main bearings instead of on the end of the crank which makes for a smoother engine as you dont get crankshaft whip. Phil took the scooter down to JB for dyno testing after the engine was finished and its putting out 26+hp Weve got a JB pipe to try which supposedly brings in the power 1000rpm earlier which would mean he might be able to pull taller gearing. One thing that Phil bought on a recent trip to Stuart Owens workshop was an electronic revcounter with multi functions, it cost about 100 quid and beleive me its worth every penny its shows the revs obviously but also records the number of hours the engine has been running and also the maximum revs reached. unlike a lot of tachos it can be used with the vari tronic ignition too

Hi Gary.,
I mentioned above that Phil had another pipe to try i was actually a Franspeed, he fitted it and i brought in the power a lot earlier sadly he started to ride it to Regents Park and the scooter holed the piston it was a lot louder than the NK one he had previously and becauser of the noise he couldnt hear the engine pinking till it was too late, so a lesson learned if you fit anything new ride it slowly first and check the plug for signs of overheating or pinking! the trouble is it makes such a mess when the piston burns all the crank has to be stripped out and new seals fitted as well as replacing the 140 quid piston it makes for an expensive lesson! Phil spoke to Stuart Owen about the piston and Stuart advised that he had had a few people complain they have holed thier pistons so if you do change the pipe check the jetting if you your not sure a visit to JB tuining is a lot cheaper than forking out for engine/piston rebuilding

hi doc, thats just it ive been putting mine on dyno and its still holing the piston, jb is setting it up with a 58 needle and people are telling me its miles to lean and should hav lot lower needle , ive rebuilt again and put a new tm 35 on it , jb told me to leave the main jet 350 and the pilot jet 20 that comes as standerd but take out the 53 needle that comes with it and put a 58 on second clip, but i havent i ve left the 53 in on top clip so it runs very rich, what needle are u using ? both times it holed there was no pinking, but looking at pistons it was running very lean and hot and blew on the exhaust side, ive been told by few that the nk race will not let the piston cool properly , both times it holed i hav been doing 60 mph for few miles

Hi Gary., sorry i havent replied before now as i havnt been on the forum ive just rebuilt Phils engine i havent run it yet as weve been waiting for some viton rubber o rings for the pipe flange on the JL Pipe which phil says hes dropping off to me tonight, When he was running the NK pipe it ran perfect and you could run it at 65 -70 all day! the carb is still fitted with the jets for the NK Pipe which are 22.5pilot 330 main, 58 needle on 3rd nothch from top One question tho, whats your ignition timing set at? phils is 17degrees BTDC using AF Lightened Flywheel, if you retard the ignition timing it will transfer the heat from the cylinder to the pipe not only making it run cooler but it will make the engine rev on further too. The problem with jetting is that everyday the oxygen levels in the air differ so if you set the engine up for instance on a day when oxygen levels are low and the engine is running rich you downsize the mainjet, but having done that the same set up on a day when the oxygen levels in the air are high puts the same settup into the weak side of the scale, also Dynos dont put anywhere near the same load on the engine as riding on the road say into the wind or up a steep hill. So my advise is fit a larger main jet than you have been using keep an eye on the plug make sure its running nice dark colour but not black and oily you might lose a little bit of power but its minimal and you'll save yourself a lot of embarrassment not to mention money! ;D P.S. make sure you check your timing, remark everything dont take the existing marks for granted as theyre quite often wrong if you get stuck you can ring me on my mobile 07816142350 Good Luck ;D
